

Shirley Richards (also known as Shirley Stinson) passed away on June 15, 2020 in Round Rock, TX at the age of 83 after an extended battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Mendenhall, Mississippi on September 10, 1936 to Audrey and Lynnie Marie Williams. She graduated from Medina Valley High School near Castroville, TX. She married Werner Stinson, to which union two children were born, Mark Stinson and Sondra Stinson. She was first a homemaker and later worked as a loan officer at several banks in San Antonio, TX. While working in San Antonio, she met Robert Richards, a WWII veteran, who was in the furniture business. They became close friends and Shirley left the banking business to help Robert with his business, first in San Antonio and later in Cypress, TX. She enjoyed the many trips she made with Robert throughout the US as well as to Europe. They moved to Bastrop, TX in 2010 and were married on July 20, 2010. They later moved to Austin to be closer to family. After Robert’s passing, Shirley resided first at The Cottages and later at University Village Memory Care, both in Round Rock, TX.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Werner Stinson and Robert Richards, and son Mark Stinson. She is survived by her daughter Sondra (Fred) Strietelmeier, grandsons Zachary Strietelmeier and Nathan Stinson, sister Alice (Craig) Greene, brother Kenneth (Nedra) Williams, nephews Danny Stangle, Jeffery Williams, and Larry Williams, as well as a host of friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Cottages and University Village Memory Care for the special and loving care they gave to Shirley.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor Shirley may be made to the charity of your choice. A graveside service honoring Shirley’s life will be held at 2:00pm on July 2, 2020 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. Arrangements are handled by The Gabriels Funeral Home in Georgetown, TX.
