

Tommy J. Adkins was born August 10, 1929, in Brownwood, Texas and passed away on February 24, 2023, in Round Rock, Texas. An Air Force veteran with twenty-eight years of service, Tommy was stationed at Sheppard AFB, Texas, Bien Hoa, Vietnam, Misawa, Japan, Keesler AFB, and Korat, Thailand. He served during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Tommy retired as a Chief Master Sergeant. At Keesler AFB, he was selected as the Instructor of the Year and twice as the Airman of the Year, and twice served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the base. Through extensive part-time study, Tommy earned a B.S. Degree in History, an M.S. Degree in Counseling, and a Specialist Degree in Education at the University of Southern Mississippi. Following his military career, Tommy was a College Counselor and Adjunct Instructor (Sociology) for fifteen years at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
In 1975, Tommy was elected to the Board of Directors for the Keesler Federal Credit Union and served there for more than thirty-five years as a Board Member, Secretary, Vice-Chairman, and twice Chairman of the Board. Since his retirement, he continued to serve as Chairman Emeritus.
Throughout his working career, Tommy remained very active in various organizations in the local community. He also enjoyed playing golf, racquetball and bridge with his friends. He played golf three times a week at Sunkist Country Club in Biloxi, Mississippi where he was known for his hole-in-one on hole #11.
After Tommy retired he and Betty enjoyed traveling the world and sharing time with lifelong friends. After forty years in Biloxi, they chose to move closer to family and made Georgetown their home for the last ten years.
Tommy is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty, one son, David & his wife Betti of Lawrenceville, Georgia, and one daughter, Cynthia Martin and husband Dave, of Georgetown, Texas; grandchildren, Derek, Leah, Andrew, Lindsey and Laura; greatgrandchildren Koal, Dante and Bella. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald, his parents, Samuel and Talma; brother, Samuel Jr., and sister, Elouise Webb.
