Alexander Sandy Roderick Matheson

It is with great that we announce the peaceful passing of Alexander Roderick (Sandy) Matheson on Wednesday, January 5,2011 at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.

Born in Port Morien, January 25,1947, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Andrews) Matheson of Port Morien.

Sandy was a member of the Pipe Fitters and Millwright Unions and worked on various construction sites and retired due to ill health from Atomic Energy of Canada. He was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien.

Sandy was very devoted to his family and cherished every moment he spent with his children and precious grandchildren. He will be missed by his old pal, Max.

Sandy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra (Butts), by his son, Jason (Carrie), Grand Cache, AB, daughters, Terie (Donnie) Buchanan, New Glasgow, NS, Deanna (Chris), Hampton, NB and by grandchildren; Alexandra, Riley, Corbin, Kaiden, and Zander, brothers, Robert (Linda), Clarence (Rose), sister, Georgina (Mike) Byrne, all of Port Morien. Also left to mourn is his mother in law, Phyllis Butts and her family and many cousins, nieces, nephews and several close friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Funeral service will take place Monday, January 11 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Port Morien with Rev. Vernon Reid officiating. Interment will take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery at a later date.
