

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Annie Jones MacKenzie at the Glace Bay Hospital on Thursday, April 24, 2014.
Mom was born in Birch Grove to Donald John and Margaret MacDonald; one of 12 children. She married Norman Jones and together they raised two children, Norma MacAdam (Sandy) and Calvin Jones (Irma).
She is survived by her daughter, Norma (Sandy); daughter-in-law, Irma; stepson, Terry (Sharon); stepdaughters, Joan (Tommy), Joyce (Cliff), Lois (Roy) and Winnie. She will be lovingly remembered as “Nan” by her grandchildren, Stephen, Loreen, Todd, Lori, Marla and Brian; also 17 great-grandchildren and 14 step-grand-children. She is also survived by brother, Vernon (Mora) and sister, Isabel Snow; cousin, Evelyn Shears, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Jones (1969); son, Calvin (2007); her second husband, Chester (1997); stepsons, Ronnie and Chester; as well as sisters, Janet, Mary, Florence, Sarah, Georgina, Louise and brothers, Pringle, Robert and Donald.
Mom will be greatly missed by her special friend and care-giver, Marilyn Harrison; the girls from New Waterford Home Care, V.O.N. staff; friends from Cozy Crescent and her ‘special’ Doctor O’Brien who provided much care and kindness over many years.
Mom was employed for many years at the “Old Glace Bay General” in the Dietary Department. She was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church; former Sunday school teacher; a member of the Glace Bay Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Jubilee Rebecca Lodge, number 14 for over 45 years.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, April 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Patten’s Funeral Home, Union Street. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28 at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Allan MacLellan and Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Burial will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Cemetery.
