

Born in Dominion, No.6, Cape Breton Co. on February 5,1935, he was the son of the late Frank and Anniebelle (Sullivan)Clements who were commonly and affectionately referred to as “Big Frank & Annabelle”
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Aubrey Clements and a sister in law, Effy (Petrie) Clements and his step father, Ernest Walton.
He is survived by a brother, Robert Nelson (Betty) Clements, Edmonton, AB, John Paul Poirier, a devoted friend,, Joe Maidment, a life long friend, and Joan Jewells, Jean Madore (Nickie), whom he considered family and several nieces and nephews.
Charles was a devoted member of Epworth United Church, Glace Bay. He served his church as an elder, a member of the session, a member of the unified board and a choir member for many years. He represented his church as a presbyter to Sydney Presbytery, the United Church of Canada and also attended Maritime Conference of the United Church. When Epworth ceased to exist, he transferred his membership to Newsome United.
Charlie was a strong supporter of Operational Eyesight and exerted great efforts to raise funds for that project at both Newsome and Epworth.
Charlie was a great sports enthusiast, always ready to defend his Toronto Maple Leafs, the Blue Jays and was a great fan of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Until recently he was a resident of the Kennedy Drive senior’s residence and he will be remembered there as a friendly helpful neighbor who was always ready to help and do what he could for those in need.
Charlie will be greatly missed by his fellow members of the “Reserve Tim’s Community. He enjoyed his early evening sessions of coffee and idle chit chat and sometimes not so idle chit chat with Ambrose, June, Les, Joe, Michael and others.
According to Charlie’s wishes there will be no visitation. Funeral service will be on Saturday October 29,2011 at 2:00 pm at Newsome United Church with Rev. Michael Goodfellow and Nancy Whitney- Latham DLM officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Grand Lake Rd., Sydney. Family requests no flowers but memorial donations to Operational Eyesight , Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated.
