

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Lyons, 76, on Thursday September 28 at the Glace Bay General Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born May 7th, 1941 to the late Thomas and Sarah (Campbell) Lyons he is survived by his wife Mary Murphy, daughter Charlene, granddaughters Jennifer and Danielle, sisters Mary and Ethel Nearing, Glace Bay, stepsons Malcolm and Greg Gillis and stepdaughter Paula, step grandchildren Ryan and Haley, five nephews and special cousin Lily Lyons. He was predeceased by son John Charles at birth, brothers Henry, Thomas and Dan Willie, brother-in-law John Nearing Sr., sisters-in-law Violet, Alice and Shirley.
Charlie was a miner who worked at #20, #26 and retired from Phalen Colliery. He was a member of the Glace Bay Seniors Pensioners Club where he enjoyed going to the many seniors dances. He was a dedicated member of the Cape Breton Antique and Custom Car Club for 26 years where he enjoyed going to car shows and many outings with his ‘57 Chev car and ‘52 Chevy Half-Ton that he received many awards for. He also enjoyed his daily trips to Tim Hortons with his friends.
Visitation will take place on Monday October 2, 2017 from 7-9pm in Patten Funeral Home 71 Union St Glace Bay. Tuesday October 3 there will be a second visitation from 12-2pm and funeral will follow at 2pm in Patten Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Palliative Care, St. Paul’s Church Building Fund or charity of choice.
