Born in Homeville on January 28, 1930, he was the son of the late Edith Hortense (Spencer), and William Allison Ferguson. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Effie Jane (MacQueen), his sister Edie Phillips, and his brother John.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Jane Anne Ferguson (Moose Factory, Ontario), and sons David (Mary) Homeville, Gordon (Wendy) Homeville, and Stuart (Belinda) Bedford, NS. He will be lovingly missed by his grandchildren; Stephen, Matthew, Sarah Jane, Andrea, Beth Ann, Daniel, Baillie, Kelsey, Paige, and by his great grandchildren; Keigan, Noah, Ella, Keira, Gisele, Lyla, Simon, and Annalyse. He is also survived by his brother Spencer (Carol) Ferguson, and by many nieces and nephews.
Donald was a lobster fisherman for 69 years, fishing up until he was 91 years old! His happiest times were spent on the water aboard the False Bay with his long time first mate, Albert Ranson, and on his tractor in the woods of Broughton bringing in the years wood with his sons and good friend David Howie. Donald was an avid trap and skeet shooter in past years, while a member of local gun clubs on the Island. He often travelled for tournaments with his best friend Dwayne MacLeod. Donald was an adherent of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Glace Bay.
