

Donald MacLeod
90, Glace Bay, N.S.
October 25, 1922 - November 11, 2012
It is with great sadness we the family announce the peaceful passing of Donald MacLeod, a resident of Taigh na Mara, formerly of Wesley Street and Sterling Road, Glace Bay.
Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Daniel MacLeod and Mary Anne (MacIntrye) MacLeod. He was adherent of Warden United Church.
At a young age Donald began work on the railroad before joining the military to serve overseas, in England, France, Belgium and Holland. Upon his return to civilian life at the end of World War II, Donald took up employment in the coal mines of Cape Breton until his retirement.
Donald was predeceased in September 2005 by his wife of 63 years Violet (Snow) MacLeod.
They are survived by their children, Nelson (Annette) Kingston Ont., Ann (Kevin) Strong, Glace Bay, Allister (Maureen) Glace Bay and Stewart (Jo-Ann) Little Narrows. He will also be missed by grandchildren Don (Kim) MacLeod Renfrew, Ont., Dianna (Ross) Dafoe, Belleville Ont., Arlene (Shawn) Bruckschwaiger, Sydney, Heather Strong (Jon Patterson) , Glace Bay, Sean MacLeod, Quebec, Shealene (Joey) Barrett, Glace Bay, Crystal (Matthew) Doyle, Fort MacMurray; step-grandchildren Shelise Morgan, Ont., Patrick and Jason Jessome, Edmonton and also 20 great grandchildren.
Donald is also survived by brother in law Freddie Snow, Ont. Lloyd (Vangie) Snow, Reserve Mines, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, besides his parents and wife, Donald was predeceased by sibling Daniel and twin Katie (late Edward) Borgal, Agnes (late Sonny) Gilmore, Alec (late Ruth )and William (Corrine); daughter-in-law Judy MacLeod; grandson Donald Fraser MacLeod and great-grandson Landon Doyle.
Donald will be remembered as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, proud veteran and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Our family would like to thank Dr. MacLean and the staff of Taigh Na Mara for their care over the past five years.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 13 in Patten Funeral Home 71 Union St. from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at 11 a.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Goodfellow officiating with burial in Greenwood Cemetery
