It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing on Monday, February 6th, at St. Martha's Hospital in Antigonish, of our father, grandfather, brother and friend Douglas Ernest Rideout, age 86. Doug lived in Creignish Rear. He was born in Glace Bay and spent most of his life in Port Hawkesbury. He was the son of the late Chesley and Isabella (Trenchard) Rideout and was predeceased by the mother of his children, Ethel Rideout (Royal); brothers Roy Rideout (Glace Bay) and Clayton Rideout (NB), and sister, June Rideout "angel baby". Doug was an adherent of St. Marks United Church in Port Hawkesbury.
Doug spent most of his career at the Mulgrave Machine Shop as a Machinist and was a volunteer Fireman for the Port Hawkesbury Fire Hall for 15 years. He will always be remembered as the caller for Friday night Bingo. He enjoyed playing cards and darts with his friends. Doug was a proud Blue Jays fan, and never missed a hockey game when The Toronto Maple leafs were playing.
Doug is survived by his sons, Kevin of Arizona, Brian of Glace Bay, and Roy of Glace Bay; daughters, Cheryl of Calgary, and Phyllis (Laurie) of Creignish Rear and brother Ralph (Debbie) of Glace Bay.
Doug is also survived by his loving grandchildren; Rebecca, Chealsea, Victoria, Jason, Amanda, Ashley, Courtney and John along with 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Private Family Service will take place. Interment at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
The family would like to say thank you to the staff at St. Martha's Hospital and Pattens Funeral Home for all their help.
