June 13 1943 - March 20 2012
Glace Bay, Nova Scotia
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, husband, and grandfather
Ferman James Furey on March 20 at the Glace Bay Healthcare complex with his loving family
at his side. Ferman was a retired coal miner, he was always an avid hunter and fisherman.
After coal mining, he took courses and became a registered guide, for hunting and fishing
with the Department of Natural Resources. Of course his favorite river was the beautiful Margaree,
he enjoyed his time at the trailor and teaching people the art of fly fishing. At one time he was on the
executive of the Margaree Salmon Association of which he always remained a member. He enjoyed the peace
and quiet of being near the river (his meaning of heaven!). He was a 'Devoted 'Caper' and he consider himself a 'Cape Bretoner To The End'. Ferman is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley and his son Ferman (Andrea) and his daughter Annette (Mally) Taylor also his grandchildren - Joehanna and Samantha also survived by his brothers Keith (Glace Bay), Russell (Ontario), and his sister Judy (Windsor). Ferman was predeceased by his parents Helen (White) and Edmond Furey and brother, Stanley and sister, Loretta. At his request there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, March 26 at St. John the Baptist Church at 11am with Rev Leo Boone officiating with burial in parish cemetery. Reception to follow in Patten funeral Home. Donation may be made to a charity of one's choice. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.pattenfuneral.com.
