

James Martin Crawford, 82, known as Jim or "Pops" by those closest to him, passed away peacefully at the Glace Bay Hospital on February 4th, 2026, following a brief illness, closing a long life defined by family and friends. He was an avid pool player and belonged to several leagues in Ontario before moving back to Cape Breton, the place of his birth.
His hobbies included woodworking, where he made beautiful kitchen cabinetry and helped remodel homes, fishing, playing darts and bowling. He had a deep love of animals and spent much of his time pampering his beloved dog, Samantha. As a young man he worked in Boston and Toronto where he won awards for painting airplanes. He then worked at DEVCO as a draftsman, salvage officer and shipper/receiver until his retirement.
He was predeceased by his parents John Bernard and Hannah (Farrell) Crawford, his wife Mary Rose (McInnis) Crawford and his daughter Elizabeth Ann Crawford. He was also predeceased by his brother Bernie Crawford, his sister Marilyn Boucher and his niece Laura Lee (Crawford) Walsh.
He is survived by his sons James "Jim" Crawford Jr. (Florence) and Kenn Crawford, his niece and nephews Lisa Boucher, David Boucher and JB Crawford, his grandchildren Tyler King (Amy), Brittany McNeil (Ryan) and Cathy DeCoste (Chris) as well as his beloved great grandchildren Nikale, Emily, Madelyn, Shaun, Emery, Lucas, Braelyn, Kaleeah, Madison, Jayce and Kinsley.
