It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of our wife, mother and grandmother, Paulette Raylene MacDougall. She died on October 16, 2023 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after many years of living with leukemia with grit and grace.
Paulette was born in Port Morien to the late Chester and Dolena MacIntosh. She was trained as a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at the Glace Bay General Hospital.
Family, music and her love of community were the hallmarks of Paulette’s life. She was a proud lifelong resident of Port Morien and demonstrated her pride through her leadership and involvement in countless community events and organizations. Those most dear to her heart included the Port Morien Players, Morien Memories festivals and most recently, the Cow Bay Ceilidh of Celtic Colors. Paulette loved to sing and dance. She played several musical instruments, though the ukulele was her favorite. She was the leader of the Cape Breton Ukulele Strummers, a role she cherished. Paulette was the tie that held our family together. It was at her home that we gathered to celebrate during the good times and she supported us all through the bad times. She will be dearly missed.
Paulette is survived by Kenny, her husband of 51 years, her son, Roy (Rachael), and her grandchildren, Sean and Katherine. She is survived by her siblings, Dawn (Russell) Power and Leroy (Eleanor) MacIntosh, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Mabel, Georgia, Mary, Caresse and brother, Sonny.
Visitation will be from 12 until 2 on Sunday, October 22 at Patten Funeral Home, Glace Bay. The service celebrating her life will take place at 2 with a reception to follow. Private interment will be held at a later date.
Thank you to Dr. Jonathan Hebb, and the staff on Unit 3B and An Cala for your kind and compassionate care. Thank you to Mabelann Kosick and Clara MacIntosh for your years of support. Paulette’s life was improved and prolonged by the gift of blood donations. Flowers or a memorial contribution to Canadian Blood Services are equally welcomed.
For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed via Patten's facebook page.
