

We the family regret to announce the passing of Ralph Idris MacVicar on July 10th,2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. He was born and reared in Birch Grove and later moved to Glace Bay where he resided until January when he moved to Harbourstone. He was the son of the late John and Eleanor (Taylor) MacVicar. Ralph was a coal miner his entire life having worked at Four Star Colliery and Devco collieries Caledonia and No. 26 from where he retired. He also enjoyed the many visits from all his nieces and nephews. He loved country and Scottish music and was especially proud of his Scottish heritage. He is survived by son John Fraser (Dr. Rose McKay), sisters Doris Rankin, Ontario and Dorothy ( Dr. Rudolph) Baldoni, California who he enjoyed spending some time with; sister-in-law Anne McVicar California and a special cousin Sheldon Smith of Birch Grove. Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers Ralston, Dan, Allison (Buddy), Archie, John, David, Tommy and three siblings in infancy. Remains are resting at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union Street, Glace Bay. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, July 19, 2pm at Patten Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Vernon Reid officiating. Burial to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
