Alan Jon Adams was born November 22, 1937 in Luray, KS to Noel and Johnnie Mabelle Adams.
He graduated from North Kansas City High School and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Missouri, making him a MU Tiger fan for life. Alan married Carol (Kay) Mumma December 2, 1962 and had three daughters, Linda, Kathy and Janel.
He was an early member of Meadowbrook United Methodist Church and served as the Boy Scout leader there for many years. He had been an Eagle Scout himself, and continued to serve in many scout positions and had the honor to conduct Eagle Scout reviews for many young men during most of his adult life. He was humbled to be presented the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor a council may present for exceptional service to Scouting. Alan was often seen at Bartle Scout Reservation each summer and achieved the rank of Sagamore within the Mic-O-Say leadership enhancement program.
Alan worked for Mobil Oil for approximately 35 years, where he worked with debt financing within the credit card division. His statistical knowledge carried over into everything he did in life, starting with collecting stats for his high school’s sports teams. He tracked every tomato that came from his huge garden, and he maintained MLB and NFL stats in his meticulous handwriting, proudly sharing copies with his friends and family. Those that knew Alan had likely engaged in a conversation about scouts, nature, gardening, sports or his family.
Alan had a competitive spirit and enjoyed bringing out the best in his teammates and himself whether it was his multiple bowling and golf leagues, playing cards, or teaching his kids and grandchildren every sport he could.
After his wife of 53 years passed away, he found new love and married Mary Ann Trujillo October 17, 2016. That union surrounded him with many new family members that brought him much joy in his final years, including step children Mark and Pete (Laura) Trujillo, Chelsea (Troy) Grizzle, Gina (Terry) Cervantes, and Liza (Pedro) Parra, their 22 children and 11 grandchildren. Alan always had a strong faith and celebrated his conversion to Catholicism in 2021.
Alan was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol (Kay) Adams, daughter, Janel Adams and brothers, Douglas and Clark Adams.
Alan is survived by his wife, Mary Anne of the home, daughters Linda (Scott) Low of Oklahoma City and Kathy (Bob) Zollmann of Liberty, MO. He also leaves behind 15 cherished grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a brother, Steve Adams of Lenexa, KS, many beloved brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He will be deeply missed by his extended family, friends, church and Scouting communities.
