

Barbara Lee Hutchinson was an only child and born on October 27, 1938 in Salisbury, Missouri. She graduated from Central High School, Class of 1956, in Kansas City, Missouri. She received an associate degree from Kansas City Junior College and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Kansas. She also completed a Master’s degree in Education at Webster University.
In her first position of employment, Barbara danced with the Myldred Lyons’ Dance Studio Lyonettes, including performances at Wildwood Lakes with featured celebrity singer, Pat Boone. She later served as an educator for more than thirty-seven years. She taught sixth grade in Nebraska and the North Kansas City School District, but her teaching was primarily devoted to Kindergarten students until her retirement from Sycamore Hills Elementary School in the Independence School District.
Barbara was an avid reader with a particular love for mysteries. She loved to dance with experience in tap, ballet, jazz, toe tap, and acrobats. She was also a majorette. She and her daughter shared a passion for the fine arts, often attending theatre and ballet performances. She was exceptional at needlework, particularly sewing, knitting, embroidery, and crochet. She always had special heart for children and animals.
Barbara’s greatest commitments were to her family and to the church. She was the kinkeeper to family members, assuring that she stayed in touched with extended family, and loyally put loved ones first. For the church, she served in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Adult Sunday School. In addition to other women’s organizations in Nebraska, she served as Chairman for Northgate Baptist Church and Briarcliff Church in the Women’s Missionary Union. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and P.E.O. Chapter KY, a philanthropic educational organization.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Cynthia Call, of Kansas City, Missouri, and many cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents, Edward Lee Hutchinson and Ruth Eleanor Finnell Hutchinson, cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a special feline named Lexie.
A family burial will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Asbury Cemetery in Keytesville Township of Chariton County, Missouri. A celebration of life will take place at Grace Baptist Church, 3101 N.E. Vivion Road, in Kansas City, Missouri on Saturday, November 14, 2020. Memorial visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., and the service will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
The family encourages all to be thoughtful and keep one another safe as we honor our loved one. All visitors at Grace Baptist Church will be required to wear masks, socially distance at six feet, and complete a temperature check. Please protect all friends and family present by using the hand sanitizer stations. Despite the need for comfort, connection, celebration, and support to one other during this time, physical touch, including handshaking and hugging, is prohibited.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Missouri Baptist Children’s Home, 11300 St. Charles Rock Road in Bridgeton, Missouri 63044, and Kansas City Ballet, 500 W. Pershing Road in Kansas City, Missouri, 64108. In light of Barbara’s kind and giving spirit, individuals are encouraged to engage in random acts of kindness.
The family would like to thank the staff at New Mark Care Center & NorthCourt Rehab Suites for the efforts to provide specialized care, comfort, and support. The family is also grateful to the staff at North Kansas City Hospital and NorthCare Hospice House for the kindness, compassion, and care given to Barbara and her daughter before the Lord called her home.
