Bernard Ray Devine, age 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born April 18, 1946 in Brookfield, to Francis and Pearl Devine. Known to most as Bernie, he lived a life rooted in service, dedication, and a deep love for his family.
Bernie graduated from Marceline High School and shortly thereafter joined the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 124, where he proudly remained a member for 56 years. He was deeply committed to his trade and his union, serving multiple terms as a union steward, as a member of the executive board, and as a business agent for nine years. His career was a source of great pride and purpose.
In retirement, Bernie settled in Pharr, Texas, where he enjoyed traveling, golfing, and spending summers with his family. On December 25, 2024, he returned home to Kansas City to spend his final year surrounded by those he loved most. The year was filled with weekly sports gatherings, especially cheering on the Chiefs’ and Mizzou, and countless moments celebrating his grandchildren, who truly were his pride and joy.
Bernie was deeply involved in supportive fellowship and was always willing to help others find their pathway, offering guidance, conversation, and encouragement to anyone in need.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Pearl Devine, and his siblings Kay, Joe, Mary, and Tommy. He is survived by his brother, Paul, and sister, Elizabeth; his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Amy Devine, and his beloved grandchildren, Josie, Drake (Riley), and Bernie.
Family, friends, and all whose lives Bernie touched are invited to a Celebration of Life at DW Newcomers White Chapel Funeral Home, located at 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, Missouri, on Saturday, January 3, 2025, from 3:00-5:00 p.m, to reminisce, grieve, support one another, and share conversation as Bernie would have wanted.
