She was born to Horace Ray and Beulah Evelyn (Dickey) Bowersox on August 24, 1925, in Breckenridge, Missouri. Betty graduated from Hamilton (Missouri) High School and moved to Kansas City where she took a job at City National Bank. A blind date with fellow employee Hugh Emerson Adams resulted in 62 years of happiness. After their wedding on March 16, 1946 (also in Kansas City), Betty and Hugh resided in Lenexa, Ellsworth, and Salina, Kansas for Hugh’s career.
Betty was a devoted homemaker and mother with a sharp wit and a keen eye for fashion. After Hugh’s death in 2008, Betty’s last years were spent in Springfield and Kansas City Missouri, residing with her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Robert Rivers.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brother, Gerald Ray “Bud” Bowersox, and her husband, Hugh.
Betty is survived by her four children: Karen Sue (Craig) Calnan, Kansas City, Missouri; John Mark (Nancy) Adams, Lamar, Missouri; Rebecca Ann (Karl) Boaz, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Nancy Jean (Robert) Rivers, Kansas City, Missouri. Seven grandchildren: Amy Augustine, Allison VanDaGriff, Emily Adams, Tyler Martin, Samuel Martin, Connor Rivers, Clare Rivers, and four great-granddaughters.
