Born March 29, 1923 in Lebo, Kansas to S.B. and Hazel (Nokes) Wilhoite, Bonnie spent part of her childhood in Holt before moving to Kansas City. On April 27, 1944 she married Arnold J. Spake and together they raised two sons, Steven and Martin.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Steve; and her sister, Lucille Reedy.
Survivors include her son, Martin (Cynthia); granddaughter, Jennifer; nephews, Larry (Judi), Mark, Tim, and their families; cousins; and devoted friends near and far. She also leaves her cherished honorary family members, George and Valerie Barrett, Dusty Ford, and their families.
Bonnie possessed an unwavering faith in God. She loved children and had a soft spot for animals, supporting several rescue efforts. Her rescue cat, Acie, was near and dear to her heart. Her hands were always busy – for many years Bonnie knitted hats for babies in need, created beautiful quilts, knitted gifts for loved ones, grew a beautiful garden, cooked for everyone who visited, and her delicious Christmas cookies were loved by all.
Bonnie’s family and friends wish to thank the wonderful caregivers at Benton House of Tiffany Springs and the extraordinary teams at North Kansas City Hospital. You know who you are. Thank you for going above and beyond. Thank you for treating Bonnie with such dignity and compassion. You are forever in our hearts.
