Bud was born on June 27, 1933 in Emden, MO to Homer Calvert and Grace Corrine (Pollard) Calvert, both from Rural Shelby County, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 years, Nancy Kathleen (McGee) Calvert, his brother Bob B. Calvert, Bob’s wife Marjorie L. Calvert, his son Christopher Lynn Calvert, and his granddaughter Alisha Sue Huffman. He is survived by his son, Curtis Calvert (Denise), daughter Pamela Calvert (Lee DeForest), grandchildren Kate DeForest (JT Bird), Neil Calvert (Haley), Kennedy Williams and great grandchildren Lincoln (Katie/JT) and Lacy (Neil/Haley) as well as nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
His family moved to Palmyra in 1946 where he attended and graduated from Palmyra High School and was Student Body President during his senior, graduating year 1950-1951. He later graduated from the University of Kansas City with a BA degree in Social Psychology.
While in Palmyra, he met the love of his life, Nancy, who lived just down the road a bit, in Hannibal, MO. They married on Nancy’s 20th birthday, August 18, 1957, and were inseparable after that day, exemplifying true love and commitment that was impenetrable.
Bud and Nancy adored their grandchildren and would gladly do anything for them at any time, have them over for a day(s), have them spend the night(s), and take them on trips with them. One of their favorite places to take them was to the Amana Colonies in Iowa.
He enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 during the Korean War and served through 1956, leaving regular service as a Staff Sergeant and earning the National Defense Service and Good Conduct medals. He remained in the Air Force Reserves until 1960. Subsequently, he served in Federal Government areas such as the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Department of Defense, and Small Business Administration.
Bud dedicated a large portion of his life to Baptist Ministries. He was ordained in 1964 in the field of Christian Education. Over time he had served as Minister of Christian Education, training positions at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, served with the Kansas-Nebraska Convention of Southern Baptists, was a board member at Hillcrest Ministries, and served as interim/associate Pastor at Englewood Baptist Church and Wornall Road Baptist Church among other positions and areas of service. He and Nancy joined Second Baptist Church in Liberty, MO several decades ago and considered Second Baptist their home until their passing. They leave behind so many caring and loving people at Second Baptist that they also considered family.
Memorial and celebration of life services are still to be determined and notification will be made separately.
