Conrad Richard Maslowski was born on June 3, 1941, in South Bend, Indiana, to William and Helen (Brzyski) Maslowski. He was the eldest of four children and was raised with a strong foundation of faith, family, and education.
He attended St. Adalbert’s Grade School and Washington High School in South Bend, where he graduated as Valedictorian. Conrad went on to attend the University of Notre Dame on an academic scholarship and held a work study position in the school library while completing his studies. He graduated in 1963 with a degree in Accounting, finishing in the top 10% of his class and without student debt.
Following college, Conrad served in the Army Reserves and was stationed at Fort Knox. He began his professional career as an accountant at Bendix Corporation from 1963 to 1965 and, in 1966, became an auditor for Clark Equipment Company. It was there, just six months later, that he met the love of his life, Carrol. Conrad often recalled that his heart jumped the moment he first saw her and he immediately knew she was “the one”. She had an idea he may have taken a liking to her when he constantly asked her to make copies she knew he didn’t need and take shorthand of notes he could have written himself. He finally gathered the courage to ask her on a date and after an 18 month courtship, in 1968 he married Carrol Enid (Young) Maslowski.
Conrad’s career required extensive prolonged international travel, including England, Ireland, South Africa, Germany, Canada and France. Though professionally rewarding, the time away from home became increasingly difficult after the birth of his daughters, Cheryl and Christy. Returning home after weeks away to children who did not recognize him broke his heart, and he knew it was time for a change. In 1980, Conrad purchased Lift Truck Sales and Service in Kansas City, Missouri, a business he owned and operated with dedication until his retirement in 2008.
When the family relocated to Kansas City, Conrad told the realtor that the most important requirement for their new home was to be within a 2 mile radius of a Catholic church and grade school. He and Carrol became members of St. Therese Parish in Parkville, Missouri, in 1980. Both daughters attended St. Therese Grade School and later St. Pius X High School.
Conrad’s Catholic faith was central to his life. He faithfully attended Adoration and prayed the Rosary daily. His quiet devotion, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family defined his life.
Conrad loved taking family vacations and planning out every single minute of the itinerary (“relaxing beach time” was even scheduled). He also enjoyed playing the piano (if you hummed a song, he could play it), playing ping pong and checkers (no one could beat him in either game), fishing trips to Canada, volunteering at the St. Therese food pantry, and playing with his grandchildren.
Conrad was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Maslowski; his brother Corey Maslowski; and his beloved wife of 46 years, Carrol Maslowski.
He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Jim) Ross and Christy (Jason) Gudenkauf; his grandchildren, Dominic (Emma) Ross, Anthony (Nicole) Ross, Vinny Ross, Charlie Ross, Gianna Ross, Ali Gudenkauf, and Carly Gudenkauf; his great-grandchild, Frank Ross; his sister Cyndy (Craig) Wilson; sister Claudia Maslowski, his brother-in-law Steve (Brigitte) Young and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff of The Oxford Grand and HomeInstead for their compassion, kindness, and care during the final year and a half of Conrad’s life.
Services will be held on Thursday, December 18 at St. Therese Catholic Church located at 7207 NW Hwy 9, Kansas City, MO. The Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by the Rosary at 11:00 am and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am.
