

Cynthia Kay Byrd died on Tuesday April 5, 2016, in Kansas City, Missouri after battling ovarian cancer for two years. Cindy, 52, was born May 21, 1963, in Springfield, MO and adopted shortly after birth by Garnett Carnahan and Gertrude Mendenhall. At age 12, Cindy moved with her mother to Kansas City, where she became a step-sister, finished school, got a job, and met the love of her life, John Byrd. John and Cindy would have celebrated 27 years of marriage June 24. In addition to John, Cindy is survived by sister, Kathy Munzinger (Jeff); brothers, Ken Carnahan (Tammy) and Gerry Carnahan (Alecia); step-sisters, Jan Parker, Shiela Williamson (Gary) and Marsha Lyle (Ron); and step-brother, Brad Mendenhall. Cindy enjoyed a wonderful relationship with John’s siblings, Judy Blackwell (Dave), Jim Byrd (Terry) and Jane Williams (Tom). She also is survived by several nieces and nephews and extended family members. Cindy was employed for several years at a sheltered workshop and later at Wal-Mart. She was an active participant in Special Olympics and Concerned Care, where she and John made several friends. Cindy had special ability as a bowler, earning several awards for her high scores. In her spare time, Cindy enjoyed gardening, making jewelry and hand-crafting greeting cards, which she regularly mailed to friends and family. Services for Cindy will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 9, 2016 at White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery, 6600 NE Antioch Rd., Gladstone, MO.
