Dale Wayne Caskey

Dale Wayne Caskey died on January 6, 2016, at the age of 70, in Kansas City, Missouri, after a year-long battle against cancer. He passed peacefully in his home, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Sioux Rapids, Iowa, on January 6, 1946, and lived there throughout his childhood with his parents Laurence and Darleen and his siblings Virginia and David. He helped maintain the family farm and attended Sioux Rapids High School, where he was a star athlete, even being offered a college baseball scholarship. Upon graduation from high school, he served in the Air Force from 1964-1968, where he learned his craft as a hydraulic mechanic and served a Tour of Duty in Vietnam from 1967-1968. Upon leaving the Air Force, with an Honorable discharge, he eventually settled in Kansas City, Missouri, and spent most of his career with TWA, which included working as a contractor in Saudi Arabia. He continued his career with American Airlines, from which he retired in 2009. In 1987, he met the love of his life Sherry Allen, and they were married in Reno, Nevada, in 1993. Together, they enjoyed a wonderful life and marriage, including four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dale loved sports and devotedly followed the Royals, the Chiefs, and Iowa and Kansas basketball. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing in the Pacific Northwest. Dale loved to tinker in his garage, helping to maintain even his neighbors’ lawn equipment. He was an avid reader and shared his father’s passion for history and machines, particularly tractors and trains. He is survived by his wife Sherry, his mother Darleen, his sister Virginia Leidahl and her spouse, his brother David and his spouse, his grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He was loved by all and will be missed dearly. We hope he is comfortable and at peace in Heaven with his father Laurence.
