Don was born in Andrews, Texas, on December 19, 1953, to James Wilbur St. Ama and Thelma Adele (Furry) St. Ama. Don was a proud Navy veteran who served four years on the USS Enterprise. He was an avid fisherman, gun collector, techie, and sci-fi enthusiast.
From Jaimie St. Ama, his daughter, “Don was our dad. He was goofy and chose his words carefully. He taught us to critically analyze the world and to take pride in our family name. He didn’t always know the right words to express how he felt but he was always watching and cheering us on. He adored his grandchildren and wanted to see them flourish. He loved our mom since they were teenagers. He was quirky, brilliant, and inquisitive. He will be greatly missed but these are the pieces of him we will carry on forever.”
Don is preceded in death by his father and mother, James (Gramps) and Thelma (Grannie) St. Ama, and his daughter Nanith St. Ama.
Don is survived by his wife of 50 years Susan (Taylor) St. Ama; his children: Jaimie St. Ama, Jessica (St. Ama) Bradshaw, and Josh St. Ama; his grandchildren: Brina Sontheimer, Tanner St. Ama, Austin St. Ama, Aidan St. Ama, Allyson Bradshaw, Annabelle Rounds, Parker St. Ama, and Caleb Bradshaw; and his siblings: Bobby St. Ama and MaryAnne (St. Ama) Brown.
We will have a celebration of life in Brownwood, Texas. Per Don’s wishes, we will be scattering his ashes around Gramps's favorite fishing spots at Brownwood Lake.
