Donna Joy Cheney

Donna Joy Cheney (Penrod), 70, passed away unexpectedly on January 31st. Donna was born on June 10th 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri to Cecil Jr. and Lela Penrod. She graduated from Park Hill High School in the class of 1973 and Grantham University in 2012 with an Associates Degree in multidisciplinary studies. Donna married David Cheney Jr. the love of her life and Captain (Ret.) at the Gladstone Fire Department. A loving wife and mother, her four children remember her as caring, patient, compassionate and fiercely loyal. Her matriarchal qualities extended well beyond her own children. Many of her kid’s close friends and community also called her “Mom”. Donna’s life revolved around loving and supporting her husband, raising and guiding her children, and spending quality time with her treasured grandchildren, all of which she loved and cherished deeply until the day she passed.

Her gift to the world was being an example of how to love and support others with all our heart.

Donna is preceded in death by her beloved Husband, David Cheney Jr. Her Parents Cecil Jr & Lela Penrod, Brother Cecil Penrod III, and Mother in law Gertrude 'Trudy' Cheney.

Donna is survived by her four sons, Jason Cheney (Abigail) and their children Matilda, Jack, and Eleanor. Eric Cheney, Josh Cheney, Jeffrey Cheney (Hillary) and their son Evan. Father in law David Cheney Sr, Brother Keith Penrod (Helen), brother-in-law Mark Cheney (Tracey) and sister-in-law Susan Edgar (John). Along with many members of the Penrod and Cheney family.

A visitation will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home, located at 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119, on February 7, 2026, starting at 1:30 pm. The funeral service will follow at the same location, beginning at 2:30 pm.
