Dorthy Stewart a beautiful life loving woman who I deeply admired. My mother and her were in Northland Soroptimist together, and were very close. Smitty her husband was a hoot as well. The two loved each other so much! I remember how I would go over and we would throw the ball for their two Schnauzer’s.  I will always admired her wit, and Intelligence. Barbara Adams wanted me to share this photo with you all.  It was the last time that she was together with Mom.

Mom, I am already missing you so much.  I am sorry that I cannot be there for your Memorial, but at least I can send a few memories for others to remember you by.

I remember when Dad was in the hospital with TB.  Touugh times they must have been, but I never new it.  I only later knew that those times were a bit tough because Grandma Stewart had stories to tell.  She wanted me to know how much you had endured, and how much you wanted me to never know.  And how you were too proud to accept their help, although not so proud as to totally refuse a backhanded offer from Grandma...

Most people remember you for your connections with the Soroptomist society.  However, I remember that you also were in the Typogropher's International Association, and spent a year as President of the local chapter.

You and the Jaguar...  Raced a 727 to the end of the old downtown airport and won...  Passed a VW beetle so fast that it went onto the side of the road.    You claimed it had to check why its motor had stopped.  You really did not like beetles.  

I can also remember you beavering away in the basement on that IBM Selectric with the typesetting baseplate...  You finally got enough work  that you started to look for a store front.  You found one near a hair styling shop ran by Judy and Bill.  And about that time you met Jack MacDonald, and as they say in the books, the rest was history

Oh my loving friend, Dottie - to think that on my next trip to K.C. from CA I will not be able to stop in for that hug along with a glass of wine.  We shared such great times, and my many memories of you will always be filled with love and laughter.  How I will miss my phone calls to you which were always at least once every 2 weeks. You are in your loving Saviors care now.   Gods richest blessings my friend, along with my warmest hug.

To Dottie's family:  Howard and I lived just two doors down from Smitty and Dottie in Gladstone.  Dottie and I would walk our dogs and talk talk talk.  After Howard and I retired and moved to The Lake of the Ozarks, I would always stop and visit when we returned to Kansas City to visit our family.  I so loved that lady!!  I attended Smitty's funeral and the last birthday party that her boys gave her so I had an opportunity to meet her family,  Michael, Jeff, Jesse, John, Brian, and sweet  Laura.  Thanks to Susan for your assistance along with Brian in making plans for my friend's funeral.  Brian, you  handled your Grandma's affairs with love,  and I so appreciated your time spent thru texting in giving me updates after she became so ill.  Dottie came to my Howard's funeral in 2009 at The Lake of The Ozarks.  I later moved to Northern California, but always stayed in touch with your Mother and Grandma, and would always visit anytime I flew back to K.C.  My daughter Marchelle & her husband Curt also so loved her and we always took her out to lunch.  Her doggie Hilda always knew me.  What a  partner Hilda was to her.  When  Howard and I, Marchelle & Curt flew to New Zealand and Australia,  Dottie's son Michael was our "guide" in Sydney along with Lesley.  Dottie was so happy that we got together.    I am sorry that I am unable to attend my dear friends funeral, but I certainly will be there in spirit.  A floral arrangement will arrive.  Many hugs from me are  flying across the miles to you, Dottie's family!!

From the first day I volunteered at Clay County Clothes Closet Dottie made me adore her. She was caring, lively, sharp as a tack, and so much fun to be around. She was wonderful with our preschool clients and I learned so much from her. She was such an awesome gal - I will always have such good memories of her.
