

He was born on December 19, 1946 to August Richard and Naomi Alice (Haddock) as an only child. Eric graduated from Bronaugh R7 High School in Bronaugh, MO and then enlisted into the US Navy and served in the Vietnam War.
Eric's career at Kansas City Southern Railroad began in 1968 as an electrician apprentice at the company's Pittsburg, KS facility. In 1972, he took the position of electrician in Shreveport, LA, and in 1973 moved to Neosho, MO as mechanical foreman. He later held assistant trainmaster positions at Greenville and Beaumont, TX and Lake Charles, LA. In 1979, he assumed the position of mechanical foreman in Heavener, OK, and later mechanical supervisor. He moved back to Shreveport in April of 1985 to become superintendent of locomotives. He served as chief mechanical officer from November 1985 until his recent promotion of Vice President and Chief Mechanical Officer. Under this position, he continues his responsibilities for the purchases and maintenance of the KCS locomotive and rail car fleet. He retired on June 30, 1999.
He was a member of the Zack Wheat American Legion Post #624 and Elks Lodge #2705 both in Laurie, MO and Elks Lodge #2376 in Gladstone, MO.
Eric is survived by his wife, Patty Lee Post; son, Billy Iiams (Toni Upshaw) of Topeka, KS; daughter, Erickha Rygaard (Don Dubberly) of Leavenworth, KS; daughter, Jenifer Staab (Mike) of Halltown, MO; daughter, Mikki Penland (Jeff) of Gladstone, MO, grandchildren; Billy Dean (Brittney), Joshua (Jessi), Ashley (Glen), Morgan (Jessie), Deaven, Tony (Lucas), Ashlyn (Niko), Brooke, Samantha (Dallas), Lauryn (Brenden), Payton, Henley, Megan; and six great-grandchildren.
Goodbyes are not forever, and not the end; it simply means I'll miss you until we meet again. Rest in peace. We will love you forever and always.
