Esther Kay Scott Lautenschlager Wonsetler

She was the daughter of Wanda Lucille West and Lonnie Raymond Scott. She was known to friends and family as Kay. She grew up in Milan, Missouri then attended nursing school in Kansas City where she became a registered nurse in 1966. She practiced her profession with care and distinction for 40 years as an emergency room nurse, ICU nurse, Director of Nursing and finally as a hospice nurse. She retired in 2006. Kay married David Lyle Lautenschlager on August 23, 1964. To this union were born three children who survive. Christopher Scott and wife Tonya Lee, Steven Ray, and Brian Reece and wife Amber Louise. All reside in the Kansas City, Missouri area. Kay married John Raymond Wonsetler on July 1, 2000.

Kay is preceded in death by her husband John Raymond Wonsetler and also by her brother Marvin Reese Scott.

She is survived by her siblings Melvin Leroy Scott and wife Mary Susan, Nina Faye Rexroat and husband Harold, and her twin brother Lester Ray Scott; her children Christopher, Steven and Brian; her grandchildren Caleb, Joshua, Luke, Esther and Lydia; and step-granddaughter Madison Coleman.

Kay was a long-time member of the Liberty Nazarene Church in Liberty, Missouri.

In addition to being a gifted nurse, Kay also loved plants, flowers and gardening. She could often be found working in the dirt or repotting a plant.

Prior to her passing she commented that “The love of our families is so important. So important.” She encouraged us to remember that when we see flowers we will “know that Mother’s been at work.”

A visitation for Esther will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 6:00 PM at McGilley Antioch Chapel, 3325 NE Vivion Rd., Kansas City, Missouri. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 7:00 PM, 3325 NE Vivion Rd., Kansas City, Missouri.
