

James was born July 5, 1937. He graduated from Northeast High School in 1955 and went to Junior College for a few years. He worked a year at Commerce Bank. He then went to the Kansas City Art Institute where he received a BFA in 1963. He entered the Air Force Reserves in 1965 where he served as a cook. Upon leaving the Air Force, Jim attended the School of Education at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. He received his teaching certificate and began his teaching career in the Kansas City School District. He taught art at Northeast Junior and Senior, Southwest High School, and Central Junior. Jim finished his career teaching art in elementary school throughout the city. Jim thoroughly enjoyed his life and his teaching career.
James will be remembered for his laugh, dry sense of humor, and love of sending cards for every occasion. Jim loved his nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, and his many friends and neighbors.
James’ memory will be kept alive through his brother, Vance Glasgow; nephews, Shawn (Sandy) Glasgow and Todd (Kerrie) Glasgow; grandniece, Shannon Glasgow; grandnephews, Lance Glasgow, Nathan Glasgow, Aaron Glasgow, and Cole Glasgow. Great-grandniece, Beth McIntire; and great-grandnephew, Christian Hector. James was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Donna Gilmore, and grandniece, Trista McIntire.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate James’ life on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer and Freeman Funeral Home and Mount Moriah Cemetery South, 10507 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO. 64131. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Graveside service will be held from 11:00-11:30 a.m.
