Janis Terry Brewer was born on February 6, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri and spent nearly her entire life there. Getting married and having her first child at 19, she embraced motherhood with grace. As a young mom, she raised her children largely on her own, working multiple jobs to provide the best life she could for them. She still found a way to engage in all their activities, from school field days, theater performances, cheerleading, track meets and painful band recitals.
As a computer programmer for much of her professional life, Jan brought love and energy to each company she was a part of.
Her baby blues, bright smile, sense of humor and infectious laugh lit up any room. She loved animals and considered her pets a part of the family.
Some of her favorite things to do were spending time with her kids and grandkids, hosting pool parties, playing volleyball, bowling and country dancing. She loved the ocean, enjoying scuba diving, shallow floats and scouring beaches for seashells. She also enjoyed writing and was an avid reader. Oh, and she loved her Kansas City Chiefs.
In 1994, she met and married Carl Dean Brewer. They enjoyed many of the above activities together, creating wonderful adventures and memories. The two were happily married for thirty years, until her passing.
Jan is survived by her husband, Carl, her children, Mark and Missy, and her three grandchildren, Luis Scot, Andres and Liliana. She will be put to rest next to her oldest child, Scot Alan Heminger. Although she will be dearly missed, her impact and legacy will live forever in our hearts.
A visitation for Janis will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 10 AM to 12 PM at White Chapel Funeral Home, (6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri, 64119), followed by a graveside service at noon.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to KC Pet Project, 7077 Elmwood Ave., Kansas City, MO 64132 or online at https://kcpetproject.org/.
