Joanne moved to Kansas City, MO as a young girl and graduated from Park Hill High School in 1955. She then attended Park College. Joanne married her high school sweetheart, Henry C. Norris, on June 1, 1957 in Parkville, MO. From their union, they had five children. Joanne made their house a home and enjoyed crocheting, reading, singing and camping outdoors. She and Henry celebrated 61 years of wedded bliss this past summer.
Joanne worked in the mortgage industry for more than 25 years, until she retired in 2012. She was an intelligent woman and took pride in her work ethic. She received numerous awards at James B. Nutter for not missing a day of work in over 10 years. As a mother, Joanne loved leading her daughters’ Girl Scout troops and has made many fond memories of campouts and cookouts. She appreciated playing word games like UpWords and Scrabble with friends and loved Mexican food. Her favorite place to vacation was the Black Hills Mountains of South Dakota. She was baptized in the Episcopalian Church.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and 3 siblings, Nancy Billigmeier, Iris Carrier and Jimmy Caldwell, II. She leaves behind a large family that loved her dearly, including her husband; 2 sisters, Martha Nelson and Margaret James; 5 children, Marni Tyson (Dave Young), Henry “Sonny” (Stacie) Norris, Jr., Eddie (Debbie) Norris, Shannon (Steve) Danzo, all of the Kansas City area, and Julie (Lee) Greer of Atlanta, GA; 10 grandchildren, Mike Tyson (Nena Burgard) of Liberty, MO, Scarlett Tyson (Sean Ragan) of Parkville, MO, Abby (Michael) Whiteley of Lexington, KY, Sam Abdel-Jaber (Brenna Hess) of Kansas City, MO, Jeff (Lauren) Norris of Frisco, TX, Jess Ford of Kansas City, KS, Cami (Brad) Anderson of Platte City, MO, Leah Norris of Kansas City, KS, Nick Danzo of Jackson, MS and Stephanie Norris of Kansas City, KS. She also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren and lots of extended family and friends who cherished her.
