Joed was born on February 22, 1942 in Springfield, MO, the oldest of five children. As a child, she enjoyed spending time on her grandparents' farms, and being with her family. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed going to the movies with her sister. She graduated from St. Agnes Catholic High School, and while in high school, she was the editor of the school newspaper. After high school, she attended Missouri State University (formerly SMS). She was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. She worked for the Springfield News-Leader newspaper during college.
On February 4, 1961, she married the love of her life, Raymond Conrad Jr., enjoying 60 wonderful years together. A few years later, they moved to Columbia, MO, where she worked at the University of Missouri in the Urology Department for many years. In 1963, Joed and Ray travelled with his parents to Europe to meet his sister and brother-in-law, touring several countries together, which was a highlight of her life. In 1980, Joed and Ray moved to Kansas City, MO where they raised their two children and spent the remainder of their lives.
Joed was a kind, loving, and generous person who always had a smile for everyone she met. She loved to read books, expanding her knowledge on history and current times, and was always learning. For those who knew her best, she had the most impeccable vocabulary and ability to always find the right thing to say. She always loved cooking and creating meals, her family and friends loved everything she would make. One of her favorite pastimes was watching movies, new and old, and sometimes over and over.
From the moment she became a grandmother, she cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called her “Mae.” She enjoyed all the time she was able to spend with them, celebrating birthdays and holidays together. Although her health had declined in the last few years, she always kept her spirits up and was a positive role model for her entire family.
She is survived by two daughters Melanie Kay Conrad and Mary Katherine Conrad. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Melanie’s children Jake Haskins (Jocelyn), Lilli Haskins, and Elijah Haskins; and Katherine’s children Brenden Conrad Sr. (Madison), Seth O’Dell, and Abigail O’Dell and her great-grandchildren Catalaya Brown (Conrad), Brenden Conrad Jr., and Samuel Raymond Conrad. Joed is also survived by her siblings Lyanne “Annie” Clemens (Darrell), Juanita “Tudie” Williams (Phil), Julie (Deeds) Phillips and Clayton Deeds. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Joed was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Clifford Conrad Jr., and her parents, Clayton Caldwell Deeds and Martaun La Veta Deeds (Smith).
