She was born on August 5, 1947, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Joe P. and Jean Rome.
Jolene attended parochial school in Hoisington, Kansas, through the 8th grade and graduated from Hoisington Rural High School in 1965. She was the only student in her class to earn straight A’s. She was active as a class officer and participated in the Spanish Club, National Honor Society, Girls Ensemble Choir, band, and the girls’ bowling team. She was also a cheerleader and the first runner-up for homecoming queen. In 1964, she was crowned queen of Hoisington’s annual Labor Day celebration. After high school, she attended Wichita University for one year and Pittsburg State for another, and then graduated from Maple Woods College with an associates degree.
Jolene met her future husband, Ron, at a local Saturday night dance in the summer of 1961 when she was just 14. They married on August 12, 1967, beginning a beautiful love story that lasted more than 57 years.
She loved being a stay-at-home mom to her three children. Jolene became an excellent seamstress and cook, and she was the spiritual heart of the family—ensuring they attended church every Sunday. Her magnetic personality allowed her to make friends easily, and she always showed genuine interest in the lives and families of others.
After becoming empty nesters, Jolene and Ron shared many passions, including snow skiing, tennis, fly fishing for trout, camping, relaxing on the beach, and being a Nana and Papa to their grandchildren.
Jolene later worked with children with learning disabilities before spending 19 years at the Federal Reserve Bank, where she eventually held the position of assistant to the Vice President.
She was a beautiful, kind, and loving person who made the world a better place.
Jolene is survived by her husband, Ron Christopher; their children, Jodi Christopher, Tracy Hudson, and Andy Christopher; and their grandchildren, Tyler Hudson and Kate Hudson.
