Larry James Blount, 77, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025. Born on December 15, 1947, in Paragould, Arkansas, Larry was the son of Carl and Peggy Blount. He spent much of his childhood in the Kansas City area, where he attended school and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1966. Larry went on to study at Central Missouri State University before enlisting in the United States Navy. As a proud petty officer, Larry served aboard the USS Oriskany.
After his military service, Larry enjoyed a long and successful career as a salesman, working across a variety of industries. He retired in 2014 from Faultless Linen, where he had built many lasting relationships and was respected for his work ethic and dedication.
Larry married the love of his life, Sharon Stevens, in 1977. Together, they enjoyed many adventures, including road trips, lively card games with friends, and—above all—attending every event that their daughter was involved in, always offering love and encouragement.
In 2015, Larry embraced his most cherished role as "Pa" when he became a grandfather to Avery, and later to Brooke. He found pure joy in making them laugh, creating fun memories, and always doing whatever he could to put a smile on their faces.
Larry had a passion for life’s simple pleasures, whether it was maintaining a pristine lawn, listening to his favorite oldies, grilling the perfect steak, or cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. His friends and family will remember him not only for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor but for his unwavering love and dedication to those closest to him.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Peggy Blount; brother, Ronnie; and sister-in-law Debbie. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Blount; daughter, Jennifer Upton and her husband Casey; granddaughters, Avery and Brooke; and many dear friends and family who were touched by his life.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 2 PM, followed by a funeral service and military honors beginning at 3 PM, at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119.
