Steve was born on August 29, 1959, in Washington, D.C., to Conway and Patricia Lenz. The Lenz family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, when Steve was a young boy, and Steve carried his love for the city he was raised in everything he did. Whether cheering for the Chiefs on a Sunday afternoon or simply talking about KC barbeque, his pride in where he came from never wavered.
Steve also had a deep passion for his work. He took pride in doing things the right way, never cutting corners, and always showing up – not just for the job, but for the people. His coworkers weren’t just colleagues – they were lifelong friends and an extension of his family. He built lasting relationships at work, and his dedication, integrity, and laughter will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
But more than anything, Steve loved his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, whose warmth, loyalty, and humor left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Steve’s strength, especially in his final months, was nothing short of inspiring.
His life was marked by deep sacrifice: always putting others first, never asking for more than he gave. Whether it was working long hours to provide for his family, lending a hand to a friend in need, or quietly helping strangers without recognition, his kindness was as constant as it was humble.
He is survived by his children, Sean and Sara; grandchildren Jayden, Rose, and Stevie; sister, Kim; and nephew, Shane.

He lived with integrity and loved with his whole heart. Steve had a unique gift for making others feel seen, heard, and valued. His generosity wasn't just material—it was emotional, spiritual, and unwavering.
Even in his final months, as cancer wore down his body, it never touched his spirit. He continued to offer love, humor, and comfort to those around him, showing us all what it means to face hardship with grace and courage.
