

Mary Jane Thomas, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2024 in the presence of family and the wonderful people at Trustwell Living of Mission Springs. She was also attended by the caregivers of KC Hospice House.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Thomas Frisby of Trenton; her husband of seventy-three years, Charles Thomas; a son, Charles Wayne Thomas of Kansas City; her son-in-law, John Signer of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; her brother, Thomas Frisby of St. Joseph, Missouri; and a sister, Patricia Cannon of Tucson, Arizona. She is survived by her sister, Martha (Marty) Mitchell of Kansas City; her children, Lori Signer of Lenox Massachusetts; Karen Thomas of Kansas City, Missouri and Michael Thomas (Cathy) of Kansas City, Missouri. She is also survived by grandchildren, Hilary Gaboriau of Paris, France; Kevin Thomas of Salina, Kansas; Sam Stewart of Kansas City Missouri; Brittney Murphy of Seattle, Washington; Melanie Connery of Madison, Wisconsin; Rachel Signer of Lenox, Massachusetts and Jill Mohamed of Manassas, Virginia. She also leaves behind ten great-grandchildren.
Mary was born in Trenton, Missouri on December 7, 1933. She attended Trenton High School until her family moved to Kansas City. She finished her schooling at Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri.
She married Charles on Valentine’s Day in 1950 and they lived the rest of their lives in the Kansas City area.
Mary worked for numerous organizations in her long career including Southwestern Bell Telephone, Nelly Don, The Kansas City Athletics baseball team, UMB, and Kansas City Life Insurance Company. She was a long-time baseball fan, and she rarely missed a Royals game on television. Mary enjoyed the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and served as a docent there for a short time. She attended Community Christian Church until her decline in health.
Those who knew Mary and worked with her in her last year will recall her sassy demeanor and edgy sense of humor. She appreciated the attention and care she received from her friends at Trustwell Living of Mission Springs. Her family will always be grateful for the compassion and love she was shown there.
Service will be held at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home and Cemetery on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:00 am. The cemetery is at 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri 64119
