Max was born on March 26, 1931 in Concordia, Kansas to Reeve and Dorothy Hawkins. After graduating from Burr Oak High School, he severed honorably in the Unites States Navy for four years. Following graduation from Pittsburg State University, Max began his teaching career in the North Kansas City School District as a shop teacher, where he passed on his skills of metal working, wood working and drafting to thousands of students.
Max is remembered by his family as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed wood working, traveling, family get-togethers, dining out and hiking through the woods during the fall, which was his favorite time of the year. He was an active member of the VFW 10906 Honor Guard. Max was a very faithful man who loved the Lord.
Max’s first marriage to Marilyn blessed the couple with two daughters, Lou Ann and Lorice. Lou Ann married Rich Frogge and they have four children. Lorice has three children. Following Marilyn’s passing, Max was then blessed with a second love and married Beverly, a fellow church member, a few years later. His new family brought him three daughters, twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
