Nat was born on December 15, 1932 in Rothville, MO to Walter and Mildred Serfass. Nat served in the US Army in the Korean War prior to working as a switchman at the Kansas City Terminal Railway until his retirement in 1994. Nat married Joyce Janet Oertwig on May 19, 1957. They recently celebrated 67 years of marriage.
Nat leaves his wife, Joyce, two daughters, Jeanette (Larry) and Jennifer (Stephen). The biggest joy of his life were his five grandsons, Christopher, Jeffrey, Aaron (Marissa), Jacob (Kristen), and Adam. The newest additions to the family are his great grandchildren, Bentley and Lydia. They have brought many smiles!
Nat was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Sonny and Vern.
Nat had a strong work ethic and was always determined to finish any task. He loved to play with his daughters and his grandsons through many years. He was a talented artist who loved to work with his hands. He has designed and painted numerous signs for school and cub scout projects, constructed picnic tables, and weather vanes all with his grandchildren in mind. He loved trains and golfing. He remained active and outdoors for as long as he was able.
He was an active and dedicated member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church since 1957. He served as an elder, trustee, and usher through the years. He leaves a legacy of the importance of faith in God and a loving family.
