Nicole Ann Damme

Our vibrant, funny and bright Nicole “Nikki” Ann Damme, age 41, died unexpectedly of multiple pulmonary embolisms on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Nikki/Nicole was born on July 7, 1980 in Papillion, Nebraska.

She was known for being generous with her love and time, and was a caring daughter to Melissa “Mitz” Barrios and Jerry Damme, a supportive older sister to Lauren Damme, a loving mother to Bailey Schrader (age 21), Jackson VanCamp (age 13), and Quinn Walker Schrader (age 3), and beloved spouse of Ryan Schrader, who she married in 2014.

Nikki/Nicole was a gifted athlete, and played multiple varsity sports at Platteview High School in Springfield, Nebraska, before becoming a starter on the collegiate soccer team at Northwest Missouri State University, where her wicked sense of humor led to many lifelong friendships. She went on to earn her Masters of Business Administration from the University of Omaha and held a number of increasingly senior positions in the fields of banking and finance, most recently serving as Senior Director of Digital Onboarding at Broadridge in Kansas City, Missouri.

Nikki/Nicole was a generous and caring person who regularly organized support drives for underprivileged families, especially for single mothers; worked tirelessly with the Heartland German Shepherd Rescue to rescue, foster and home German Shepherds; and strongly supported the civil rights of women and people identifying as part of the LGBTQ+ community.

She will be remembered for her unique combination of a hilarious, dark sense of humor, care towards people and animals, and her gift for connecting with people. Nikki/Nicole was a radiator of energy and warmth, bringing together family and friends, whom she loved deeply and freely. She gifted her friends, family and colleagues with funny and loving memories, and will be greatly mourned.

Nikki/Nicole is preceded in death by her beloved grandmother Margaret Ann Damme and Abuelita Emyre Barrios Robinson. She is survived by her mother, Melissa Barrios of Kansas City, Missouri; father, Jerry Damme of Papillion, Nebraska; sister, Lauren Damme of Washington, D.C.; husband, Ryan Schrader, and children, Bailey, Jackson and Quinn, of Kansas City, Missouri; and many loving friends and colleagues located around the country.

A Celebration of Life for Nikki/Nicole will be held at 2PM on Saturday, June 11th at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri, 64119. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nikki/Nicole’s life, and the warmth and love she brought to the world. Please wear bright colors to celebrate Nikki/Nicole’s vibrant soul.

There will be an after-celebration for drinks and remembering Nikki/Nicole from 5:00PM at Señor Tequila, 6502 N. Oak Trafficway, Gladstone, MO, 64188. All are welcome to contribute short stories, anecdotes or recollections of Nikki/Nicole in an open-mic setting while we celebrate her fun and beautiful spirit…with margaritas.
