Nina Cogan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 87. She was born in Savannah, Tennessee, to Cranston and Survilla. Nina's life was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Nina's journey began in the small town of Savannah, where she grew up surrounded by the warmth of her family. She excelled academically and pursued her passion for nursing, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Tennessee. This degree opened the door to a fulfilling career where she devoted herself to caring for others. Nina worked for the county of Los Angeles, specializing in high-risk labor and delivery as well as public health, leaving an indelible mark on the many lives she touched.
On March 26, Nina and her husband, Leroy Cogan, celebrated a loving marriage that would span decades. Together, they created a nurturing environment for their family. Nina cherished her role as a mother to her son, Joel Cogan, and his wife, Stacy, as well as being a proud grandmother to her three grandchildren: Mackenzie, Brooklynn, and Lucas. Her love for them knew no bounds, and she delighted in watching them grow and thrive.
Nina's passions extended beyond her work and family. She found joy in gardening, nurturing her plants with the same love and care she offered to those around her. Her garden was a reflection of her vibrant spirit, blooming with life and beauty, just as she did in her relationships.
Despite facing health challenges in her later years, including complications from chemotherapy, Nina approached life with grace and strength. She was preceded in death by her dear sister Patricia, who remained in her heart across the years.
As we remember Nina, we honor a remarkable woman whose legacy of love, hard work, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her. She was a beacon of light to her family and friends, and her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
A private funeral service will be held to celebrate Nina's life and the love she shared with all of us. In her memory, let us carry forward her kindness and dedication to nurturing not just flowers in the garden, but the relationships that make life truly meaningful.
Nina Cogan will be deeply missed, yet her memory and love will continue to blossom in the hearts of her family and friends for generations to come.
