Opal E. Phillips

Visitation is 6:30pm to 8:30pm Friday Feb. 28th at Fairview Christian Church, 1800 NE 65th St., Gladstone, MO. Services begin 11am, at the church on Saturday Feb. 29th; burial at White Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the church. Opal was born November 9, 1929, in Meadville, MO.

The third child of Lee and Martha Sallee. She often recounted her days growing up on a farm, and how it shaped her into the strong and diligent woman she became. Opal attended Chillicothe Business College, where she received her degree in Stenography. She applied her degree as the Credit Manager for Montgomery Ward in Chillicothe MO for several years, and for over a decade in her position at Brookfield Production Credit. On Sept. 16th 1962 in Chillicothe, MO, Opal married the love of her life, Bobby Lee Phillips, of Kansas City. The two weren’t just partners in life, they were partners in business as well. Together they opened and operated a successful masonry contracting business for 27 years. During which time she presided as Vice President and Secretary. Opal was a lifetime member of Fairview Christian Church. She was a member of the VFW Post 10906 Ladies Auxiliary, and a six-year volunteer for the PGA golf tournament. She spent most of her later years surrounded by her great-grandchildren who she adored. She would tell anyone who would listen “I’m a great-grandma!” with such love and pride in her voice.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 42 years. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by, her only child, daughter Lisa Phillips, two loving grandchildren Cassandra Garmon husband Tim, Bobby Whisenant, 5 precious great-grandchildren Scarlett, Sterling, Magnolia, Tessa Mae and Kash and two step-great-grandchildren Kayden and Serenity. Two sisters Margery Hawk of Chillicothe, Margaret Minor of Gladstone, plus numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
