December 18,1935 – September 10, 2024
Pat went home peacefully to her God after a long journey through Alzheimer’s.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Ellaben (Sisney) Townsend; brothers, Malcolm (Malthis) Townsend and Herbert Townsend, Jr.
She is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Jeanne Christensen, RSM; her longtime friends, Mary Ann Riesco, Sandy McGuire, Carletta Dee Carver, and Jean Martin Dawson, SCL; and many other friends and colleagues.
Pat was a strong, funny, intuitive, spontaneous, competent woman. These characteristics marked her long, dedicated ministry in education, first as a primary grade teacher and soon as an administrator – Miss Townsend THE principal! She held a Master’s degree in Education Administration.
Her strong belief in and commitment to the education of children was born during the fourteen years she was a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth. Her ministry began as a teacher in Chicago, and it ended as an administrator in Montana on the Crow Indian Reservation in Pryor, MT. She loved every school because she loved the children and families she served. The majority of her ministry was in the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph, Missouri with a few years in the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas.
After she retired from her education ministry, she worked as a screener at the Kansas City International Airport. When she retired a second time, she enjoyed leisure activities -- camping, hiking, walking, watching the Kansas City Chiefs, feeding birds and squirrels, working jigsaw puzzles and doing many other “fun things”. Her pets included several dogs over time, but most loved was her Corgi, Turk. She also maintained a large fish tank for many years. She was not known for her cooking ability except on the campground or on a grill!
Pat will be deeply missed by her many friends and colleagues; but knowing she rests in peace with her full memory restored, brings peace and comfort to our hearts.
