Paul was the beloved husband of Nellie Catherine DeGeorge for 66 years. He was the loving father of Michael DeGeorge (Bobbi Zink), Michelle Krummel (Rob), Paul DeGeorge, Jr (Kimberly). Paul was the proud grandfather of Robert DeGeorge (Jess Robertson), Alex DeGeorge (Rachel Georges), Michael Wagner (Marley), Brittany Robinson (Savannah), Brent Wagner (William), Brandon Wagner (Rachel Mahuiki), Anthony DeGeorge, Nicole DeGeorge (Mark Covey), Andrew Montgomery, Nick Montgomery (Jen Burch). He was the proud great-grandfather of Sloane Wagner, Annabella Esry, Blair Covey, Keaton Montgomery-Ritchie, Clyde M. Montgomery.
Paul was an only child growing up in the Northeast area of Kansas City. His father worked in the printing trade and his mother worked as a seamstress at the Nelly Don clothing company. He graduated from Holy Cross Grade School in 1948 and attended Glennon High School graduating in 1952. Around 1952, Paul’s family moved from Northeast Kansas City to Raytown, MO. On May 6, 1954, Paul was drafted into the Army and served until May 4, 1956. Taking advantage of the GI Bill, Paul went on to attend Rockhurst University graduating in May 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. During his time at Rockhurst, he was introduced to Nell Caniglia. Paul later asked Nell to go out through a mutual friend and she said yes. Paul would travel frequently from Raytown to Kansas City North to date Nell over the next couple of years. Paul eventually proposed and they were married on September 6, 1958 and lived in North Kansas City. In 1960, Nell gave birth to twins, Michelle and Michael. After Paul graduated Rockhurst, he was hired by General Services Administration a branch of the Federal Government. In 1963, Paul Jr was born. In 1964, they moved to 40th Street, where they would live for the next 58 years. Paul worked at GSA as a Systems Accountant up until he retired in 1990 receiving many accommodations for excellent work. As his family grew, he enjoyed visiting and joking with his grandkids and hearing about their travels and adventures. Paul didn’t have many hobbies but he did love to keep up with the news and politics of the day. He and Nell also enjoyed watching PGA golf, Royals baseball, and the Chiefs football games. For most of their life, Paul and Nell would regularly go the gym, lift weights, exercise and focus on staying healthy and eating well, inspiring many younger people to do the same. In July of 2024, the decision was made to move from their house of 58 years leaving behind the steps and the work required to take care of a home. In January 2025, we celebrated Paul’s 90th birthday, a major life milestone, with family and friends. While losing him has been difficult, we were blessed with the time we have gotten to spend with him. We are grateful that he lived a long and healthy life, and suffered little at the end. He was truly a good person and a great husband and father figure for his family. We will miss him greatly and remember him always.
