Peter Micheal Joseph Saiger Jr., passed away on June 25th 2018 from a very long battle with cancer. He FAR surpassed the DR's prognosis of his time left by about 4 + years. He was so very loved by so many.
He joined the military at an early age. He was a veteran and even spent some time in Vietnam. He was originally from Chicago, Illinois. He spent some time in Hawaii but eventually settled in Kansas. His kindness was contagious. There was no one that met him that didn’t instantly like and take to him. He was always all about doing the right thing, especially when it came to people and friends but also in his work. He would always go above and beyond the call in everything he did no matter what. He was one of the best sound engineers ever. He worked hard on the road in the mid 80’s driving the gear truck/unpacking the gear/setting up the gear/ tearing down the gear/ packing it up AND running the sound ALL AT THE SAME TIME, BY HIMSELF on tours. He could do just about and/or fix anything. Pete was a one of a kind person. There never has been nor will there ever be anyone like him. There are not enough words to explain how special he was. In 2001, he became the head house sound engineer at Knuckleheads and was instrumental building the iconic venue up to where it is today - THE blues/country/ folk / rock venue in Kansas City. There he ran sound for some of the biggest artists in the industry not to mention making friends with them all very quickly.
Pete was always VERY generous with his time and possessions. His love was UNCONDITIONAL. He will be sorely missed by so many. The best thing to think of right now is he is not in pain anymore and is with the Lord and his family and friends that have passed before him. His spirit will live on in the mind and the hearts of hundreds of others. Until we meet again my brother. He is survived by his close friends that he considered his family and by his sister, Pat Saiger of Chicago, Illinois.
Pete was a major supporter of the Michael Shannon Musician's Fund. Managed by the Kansas City Blues Society, this fund grants money to local musicians and music industry professionals to help with living expenses during times of need due to medical issues. This fund helped Pete with expenses during his long medical battle. Pete, who always felt the desire to give back, donated guitars and other items to help raise money for the fund.
In lieu of flowers, Pete's friends and family would like you to donate to the Michael Shannon Musician Fund. Go to www.BluesKC.org and click on the Michael Shannon Musician's Fund donation link. All donations are tax deductible. Do this for Pete's Sake!
Graveside services will be Tuesday, July 17th at 11:00 am at D.W. Newcomer's Sons White Chapel Cemetery. Celebration of Life at 6pm at Knucklehead’s Saloon 2715 Rochester Ave., Kansas City, MO 64120.
