

Philip Herrera, 75, passed peacefully on June 5, 2024 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 10, 1948, to John and Beatrice Herrera of Oakland, CA, Philip lived a rich life of service and passion. After graduating high school, he proudly served our country in the US Army in Vietnam. Upon returning, Philip married Mary Harp and had four beautiful children. Philip followed in his father’s footsteps, dedicating 35 years to General Motors. He was a beloved and active member of the UAW, serving in various elected positions across the country.
Philip’s passion for cooking led him to graduate from the Culinary Program at Johnson County Community College, after which, he worked professionally as a chef with Hyatt hotels. His love for cooking was something he shared generously with many, bringing comfort and joy to those around him.
Philip is preceded in death by his parents, John and Bea, and his brother Rick.
He is survived by his siblings Yvonne, Paul, Michael, Andre, and Sarita, his only wife, Mary Herrera, his children Amber, Alicia, April, and Philip II., 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassionate care and dedication. Philip’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life for Philip will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119, followed by a reception until 7:00 PM.
