R. Larry Shields

Larry was born on December 14th, 1936 in Kansas City, MO to Rollin Ray Shields and Mildred F. Tyree (Shields). He graduated from The University of Missouri Kansas City in 1966 with a degree in History. Larry married Shirley Nicks, from Owensville, MO in 1960. Larry worked for the railroad and was a claims adjuster for over 30 years. In 1967 the couple had twin sons Jeffrey Lee and Jerrold Lynn Shields. His children remember him as a good father who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Larry was accomplished at DIY skills and often helped around both his sons’ homes. He was a generous and humorous individual who loved helping others, even volunteering with Habitat for Humanity for several years. He was an active and dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of North Kansas City, where he was a deacon and led their Royal Ambassadors ministries for twenty years.

He is preceded in death by his wife Shirley, brothers Alan and Dean Shields, and his parents, Rollin and Mildred Shields.

Larry is survived by his brother Donald Shields (Vicki), sister Kathryn Shields (Philip Cardarella). Also his children Jeffrey Shields (Jenny), Jerrold Shields (Sarah), all of Kansas City, MO.

A Visitation for Larry will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM followed by a Memorial Service all at Newcomer's White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO 64119.
