Robert Lawrence Gearon, born in Dayton, Ohio, August 19, 1960, died April 1, 2026, at his home in Kansas City, Missouri. Bob is survived by his wife of 44 years, Valerie Gearon, formerly Turkington. Also, by two sons, Joshua and Bradly. Two grandchildren, Haylie and Hunter; four siblings, Raymond David, Nancy Alice Perkins, Kathleen Janice, now Kathie Banks, and Mark Allen.
Bob passed peacefully to his Heavenly Father after a lengthy battle with cancer. He now joins his parents, Mel and Alberta Gearon, in Paradise.
Bob, or Bobby, was a sweet, cheerful kid with soulful brown eyes living his first nine years in Dayton. He attended Patterson Elementary school. He was an avid explorer. He explored how things worked and how to restore them after having taken them apart. Bob was devoted also to exploring his neighborhood around Ashley St., prompting regular hunts for him. Maybe some of you were at one time part of one of these search parties.
Later, when Mom and Dad moved to Kansas City, Missouri, he grew up attending and graduating from North Kansas City High School, where he met his future wife, Valerie, making his living working on automotive sound systems- a self-taught mechanic and installer.
Bob was a jack of all trades, loved dogs and gardening, his wife and two sons, and was a willing helper to all who were in need.
Nothing lasts forever in life. The fairgrounds are gone, Patterson Elementary is no more, Ashley Street no longer exists, even the house on Vivion Road in Kansas City, Missouri, has been razed. Our memories even get a little fuzzy as years go by. However, as J. M. Barrie, author of Peter Pan once wrote, "God gave us memory so that we may have roses in December", we are comforted by our precious memories even as we miss our beloved Bob Gearon. Rest in peace, Bob, till we meet again.
A Celebration of Life will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri 64119, on April 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs.
