Sarah was a graduate of Louisiana College and received a master’s degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City. Sarah retired after a four-decade career in teaching where she developed a reputation for inspiring students who might otherwise have been at risk of being left behind. It was not unusual for former students to approach her to say that she had been the first teacher who had helped them believe they could be successful.
Sarah married Elwyn H. Hays in 1950 and they were married for 44 years until his death in 1994. Sarah also enjoyed 14 years of marriage with Norman Morrow until his death in 2015.
Sarah was active in several churches including Englewood Baptist where Elwyn served as pastor.
Sarah is survived by her brother William Berry, her sister Patricia Smith, her three children Nancy (Lloyd) Harrison, Michael (Ann) Hays, and Cris (Joyce) Hays. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Leslie, Kyle, Natalie, Ethan and Camryn and six great grandchildren.
A visitation for Sarah will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 PM with burial in the White Chapel Cemetery.
