Sean grew up in the small town of Blakesburg, Iowa, raised by his mom and stepdad, where he learned early how to work hard and care for his community. He graduated from Blakesburg High School in 1988, and carried his love of sports with him well beyond his school years. Baseball had his heart, but it was the sense of belonging and teamwork that stayed with him for life. Never one to sit still for long, Sean earned his master’s degree at age 49, quietly proving that goals don’t have deadlines.
His career in emergency services began at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield, where he earned his paramedic/firefighter certification. It was also where he met Angela, who arrived as a patient and left as the person Sean was determined to know better. After some old-fashioned small-town networking, he got her phone number. The rest fell into place and they married in 1997.
Sean and his family later settled in Gladstone, where he served his community as a paramedic and firefighter for 24 years. He loved the work, the rush and the purpose it gave him. Training new firefighters became one of his favorite roles. He led by example and never asked anyone to do something he wouldn’t do himself. He retired as Chief in 2023.
Family mattered most to Sean. He was a devoted husband and father, he took pride in coaching Faith’s softball teams and cheering loudly from the sidelines. He reminded those around him to protect their time with family, often saying it was the one thing you don’t get back. Beach trips were special, with Florida at the top of the list. Sean loved the ocean, especially fishing with Justin. At home, he found that same calm outdoors or sitting on the backyard swing next to Angie, letting the day unfold.
Sean had a sharp sense of humor and a well-timed sarcastic remark for almost any situation. He leaves behind stories that will be told often, laughs that still echo and lessons that don’t fade.
He was preceded in death by his father Curtis Daugherty and stepfather Don Chambers.
Sean is survived by his wife Angela Daugherty, daughter Faith (Kent) Wickam, son Justin Daugherty and mother Becky Chambers.
The family extends sincere thanks to the staff at DaVita Dialysis Clinic and North Kansas City Hospital for their care and dedication over the years.
To honor Sean’s years of service, the family suggests contributions be made to the Gladstone Fire Department.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at White Chapel Funeral Home, located at 6600 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119.
