Steven (Steve) J. Klegseth, 66, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri passed away Saturday December 24, 2022 with family by his side after a courageous 13 year battle with Non-Hodgkin’s B-Cell and Follicular Lymphoma Cancer.
Steve was born December 18, 1956 to Roy J. and Betty L. (Coppenbarger) Klegseth in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Steve graduated from Oak Park High School in 1975. Shortly after high school he enlisted in the United States Navy and served proudly. Steve attended Trade School at Metropolitan Community College – Kansas City. He held a Certificate of Qualifications for Operating Engineer and Fireman with the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
Steve retired from the City of Kansas City, Missouri -Aviation Department at KCI Airport as Maintenance Mechanic in 2010 after 25 years.
Steve had a quirky sense of humor that would make everyone laugh. He enjoyed watching old classic movies and the History Channel, playing video games with family, working on his JEEP, and spending time with his family. His favorite holiday was Independence Day and enjoyed shooting off fireworks and putting on a night show for everyone. He was an avid gun and tool enthusiast and spent many hours searching for the right one. Steve loved nature, all animals and was passionate about his lawn. Steve was a handyman at heart, fixing whatever was broken (plumbing, electrical, etc.). A true jack of all trades!
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Betty (Coppenbarger) Klegseth, and his sister, Karen Babcock.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years; Lori; his children, Stephanie Klegseth, Melissa Klegseth, and Matthew Klegseth; sisters, Juli (Ted) Moore and Peggy (Kevin) Vanderheiden; brother-in-law, John Babcock; his grandchildren, Isaac, Heidi, Alanna, Abigail, Ethan, and Raelynn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
