Emiko was born January 2, 1931, in Fukui City, Japan.
She worked for a record store where she would eventually meet an Airman from nearby Tachikawa Air Force Base and on October 7, 1957, she would marry that Airman, Howard Otis at the US Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. In 1958 Howard was reassigned to the US; Emiko and Howard would settle in New Mexico to start their family and life together. Emiko and Howard would travel to numerous station assignments before Howard would retire from the Air Force in 1975 and the USPS in 1993; together they would then settle in the Kansas City area where they would they continued to raise their family of five. Soon that family of five grew into grandkids and a RV where they did a lot of travel and joined a RV Club (KC Northland Sam). This group enjoyed traveling the Midwest and beyond and seeing the US sites.
Emiko along with an assistant was always eager to educate others at local schools about the Japanese culture and heritage.
She will be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother who always gave her caring attention to not only her children but to others.
Suteo was preceded in death by her parents, Kotaro and Sui Yoshida her sisters, Fumiko Yoshida, Hisako Yoshida, Kozue Ose, and Yoshiko Yoshida; and her older brother.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Howard; her five children, Gerald (Rashelle) Otis, Steven (LeaAnn) Otis, Sandra McLeod, Kenneth Otis, John (Sheila) Otis; six grandchildren, Emily Otis, Jane Otis, Hannah Otis, Seth Otis, Ethan Otis, and Samantha Otis; nieces, nephews, and other extended family from Japan.
